Boy Scout Troop 433, chartered by Mountain Post 781 of Mountain Top recently held a Court of Honor Ceremony at the American Legion Post.

The Court of Honor is a Boy Scout ceremony to honor those Boy Scouts who have been awarded merit badges, advanced in rank or have participated in Scout events where the unit was honored.

The following Scouts were advanced in rank, Matt Harkenreader, Eagle Scout; Erik Baldassano, Life Scout; Kurt Smith, Life Scout and Stephan Baldassano, Star Scout.

Approximately 25 merit badges were awarded, collectively, to the following Scouts: Matt Harkenreader, Bill Klingler, Erik Baldassano, Kurt Smith, Robert Lombardo and Stephan Baldassano.

Boy Scout Troop 433 was honored as a whole for their stellar performances at resident Scout Camp, held at Goose Pond Scout Reservation, where the Troop competed with all Troops in attendance and won the 2010 Goose Pond Adventure race, a timed race event consisting of boating skills, swimming, running, bicycling, scout skills and archery.

The Troop also won the Green Bar Award for proper utilization of the patrol method of Scouting, the Green Beaver award for conservation and ecology projects and the highest award of resident camp – the Honor Unit Award. The award pendants were placed on the Troop flag during the Honor Ceremony.

Mountain Post 781 Commander John Columbo presented each Scout that attended Boy Scout resident camp 2010 with an Honor Certificate for their accomplishments at camp.

The most significant award presented to the Troop was the Outstanding Boy Scout Unit Award. This award was presented by American Legion Post 781 Commander John Columbo to Scoutmaster Antoinette Smith. This award is given to a single Boy Scout Troop in Pennsylvania each year for outstanding services to the community and to Scouting by the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania.

Mountain Post 781 charters and hosts Cub Scouts, ages 7-11, Boy Scouts, ages 11-18 and Venture Crew Scouts, ages 14-20. If you have a child that would like to join any of these exciting Scout programs, please call Antoinette Smith at 868-5097.
